In Missouri, The National Corn Growers Association has launched its third corn innovation challenge with a call for ideas about how corn can be used to produce sustainable chemicals and products.

“Corn is an affordable, abundant, sustainably grown crop that has a myriad of uses and applications, which is why we are holding our third Consider Corn Challenge contest,” NCGA Market Development Action Team chair and Iowa farmer Bob Hemesath tells FencePost.com. “Corn’s cost as a feedstock has benefited greatly by improvements in technology, production and logistics efficiency. With society’s interest in more biobased products, we know we have the solution and that’s corn.”

Previous winners have gone on to raise funds, secure partnerships, and gain certification for Missouri production credits.

Under the rules of the contest, up to six winners will split $150,000 in grants. Entrants must send in their proposals by June 3rd, and the winner or winners will be announced in September.
