In Austria, Lenzing says its Viscose, Modal, and Lyocell brand fibers have been certified fully biodegradable in water, soil, and compost by Organic Waste Systems. The fibers are made from wood-based cellulose. OWS tested the fibers according to the international ISO 14851 standard.
Lenzing says the fibers provide a sustainable alternative to synthetic fibers that harm fish, birds, oceans, marine organisms, and humans. Lenzing’s fibers are particularly suited for wet wipes and other hygiene products.
“The Lenzing Group operates a truly circular business model based on the renewable raw material wood to produce biodegradable fibers returning to nature after use,” says Stefan Doboczky, chief executive officer of the Lenzing Group.
