Dubbed the Golden Fiber, Bangladesh is looking to diversify uses for the fiber as plastic bans proliferate in Southeast Asia. The facility was inaugurated by former president Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh. “If we can utilize jute’s full potential, we may expect good days ahead for Bangladesh. So alongside the government, we must keep our eyes open too. Jute must be used to produce a diverse array of goods. It is up to us, and the government needs to assist the process,” he said.
Mubarak Ahmad Khan, inventor of ubiquitous jute shopping substitute Sonali Bag, was also present at the inauguration. “Jute is a potent resource for us. It is a valuable commodity that may soon be grown on our roofs,” Khan added.
