In the United Kingdom, meal delivery service Just Eat has launched seaweed-based sauce containers to help cut down on plastic waste.
The sauce “sachets”—which, unlike conventional plastics that can persist for centuries, biodegrade in just six weeks—are being trialed across 10 London restaurants. Up to 40,000 sauce packets, produced by UK’s Skipping Dog Labs, are expected to be used during the trial.
The Fat Pizza in Southend, which has already used the product for ketchup and garlic mayo, says most customers were open to further roll-out of the product. Most customers also report the packaging was easy to open.
