In the United Kingdom, two farmers have developed crisp packaging that biodegrades in just 26 weeks in home composters.

Sean Mason and Mark Green used cellulose and eucalyptus trees to create the packaging, and have beat a 2025 goal to use biodegradable packaging recently announced by ubiquitous snack maker Walkers.

“We are proud to be producing our new range of crisps in 100% compostable packs, a first we think for the UK and a big step forward in dealing with our waste issues,” the company writes on its Facebook page.

Walkers—which is owned by PepsiCo—recently faced backlash for not using biodegradable packaging. A viral campaign led to consumers mailing empty crisp bags back to the manufacture.
