In British Columbia, a start-up manufacturing utensils and shopping bags from bamboo aims to expand into food and beverage containers. Bella Bamboo CEO Keith Stafford says the company’s products are 100% biodegradable, compostable, and sustainable. “We are Canada’s first wholesale zero waste company,” says Stafford.

He tells castanet.net that the Kelowna-based company’s products are also “sturdily constructed, a far cry from the flimsily designed plastics and paper currently in play.” They can also be reused many times, unlike paper products.

Stafford adds that bamboo grows fast and in many climates and scraps can be sold for power generation.
