In South Carolina, Sunstrand, LLC, a biomaterial manufacturing company, is opening a plant in Pamplico, bringing in an $8.4 million investment and 42 jobs to Florence County. The 140,000 square foot facility is projected to open in early 2019.

Sunstrand will work closely with farming partners to procure natural materials by producing bulk biomaterials for manufacturers, wastewater remediation companies and animal bedding distributors across North America, according to WBTW. The company is a supplier of natural fiber reinforcements and fillers for a variety of industries and is North America’s only commercial decorticator of technical grade bast fibers.

“Sunstrand is excited about our expansion into South Carolina. This investment will see the deployment of a major processing facility that builds a new industry from the ground up. Considering our need for world-class farmers, an accessible workforce and access to manufacturers in the region, South Carolina is the perfect location,” Sunstrand CEO Trey Riddle, Ph.D. told WBTW.
