In Denmark, IKEA is busy at work in their test kitchen, Space10, to create the food of the future, including new meatballs made from mealworms and root vegetables like carrots, parsnips and beets. Their bug burger also includes mealworms mixed with beetroots, parsnip, and potatoes.

Bugs aren’t the only new ingredients in their test kitchen, as they are exploring with green micro-algae based hot dog buns that contains 50 times more iron than spinach, making Popeye very happy. Don’t forget about dessert either – with their microgreen ice cream made with fennel, coriander, basil or mint, it makes a nutrient-rich dessert you don’t need to feel guilty for eating. For now, the new menu items are only available in the test kitchen, but they hope to some day try them out on IKEA’s menus.
