In Atlanta, millennial Sara Irvani has launched a footwear brand that uses materials that are recycled, upcycled and soy-based.
A third-generation shoemaker, Irvani tells Life Kindly that she chose to launch the brand because of the “hidden wasteful side of show manufacturing.” The team at Third Oak believe that anyone “can make a difference by making simple, conscious choices—starting with the shoes we wear,” she adds.
The location of the factory within the United States also cuts down on shipping, Irvani says. “Currently less than 1% of all shoes are manufactured in the United States and even fewer are made responsibly…Third Oak’s local Georgia roots contribute to cleaner air with a carbon footprint of 1/200th of the average imported shoe,” the company says on its website.
