In Rhode Island, ubiquitous toy brand Hasbro says it will begin using 30% biobased polyethylene terephthalate in its packaging, beginning in 2019. The company’s list of household-name toys includes Monopoly, Nerf, My Little Pony, and Play-Doh.

The company has also made efforts to reduce packaging since 2007 through better design and increase the use of recycled materials. For example, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head toys is now sold in packaging with 20% less paperboard.

“In 2016, Hasbro’s packaging engineer team launched a set of sustainable packaging principles that define our sustainable packaging design parameters and help guide our marketing and design and development organizations throughout the development cycle,” according to the company’s most recent sustainability report.
