In Oman, Sebacic Oman is building the first project to produce bio-based nylon in the entire Middle East region with a $250 million, 10,000 ton per annum-capacity project in Duqm. The project will produce two grades of bio-nylon (nylon 6-10 and nylon 10-10), which are often used in aerospace and in engineering polymers. Construction will start in 2020 with expected completion in 2022.

The biobased nylon is intended for export to the United States, Japan and Europe. At present, only a few countries in the world, such as China, the United States and Europe, produce bio-nylon, according to Times of Oman.

Pradeepkumar B Nair, chief executive officer of the company, told Times of Oman that “the project is currently in the design stage, which is being carried out by the company’s technology supplier, Cong Associates. The design of the equipment, plant, and machinery will be completed in December 2018, and thereafter, the company will approach financial institutions for the required funds.”
