In Central Europe, renewable corrosion protection company EcoCortec has joined the BIOCOMPACK project, a consortium that aims to bring together R&D institutions and companies in the paper-plastic packaging market to introduce biodegradable packaging.
EcoCortec, which operates Croatia’s first bioplastics plant, is one of 10 partners in the €1.95-million ($2.3-million) project supported by the Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme and funded under the European Regional Development Fund.
The consortium will establish a “Transnational Biocomposite Packaging Centre” to bring together their capabilities in paper and bioplastics. EcoCortec will participate in technology piloting, help prepare case studies, participate in conferences and help develop an audit tool.
EcoCortec produces films, papers, and bags from renewable materials using Cortec Corp.’s VpCI Technology.
