In Colorado, FoodMaven, an innovative tech-enabled marketplace that captures food otherwise lost in the U.S. food system, closed an $8.6 million Series A financing led by members of the Walton family.

“We are deeply grateful for the vote of confidence this financing represents for what we are doing, but also for the shared passion of creating a market-based solution for a number of societal issues that include: food waste, hunger, and negative environmental impacts,” said Patrick Bultema, Chairman, CEO and co-founder of FoodMaven. “Of course, this round also brings the resources we need to continue to rapidly grow the business, not to mention key insights and relationships.”

FoodMaven applies an innovative logistics model, big data technology, an optimized online marketplace, and sourcing relationships with food suppliers to capture and sell this lost food to foodservice buyers for restaurants and commercial food businesses. Whatever doesn’t sell, FoodMaven donates for hunger relief.
