In India, natural alternatives for skincare products are seeing increased demand. According to a market report by RNCOS, the organic skin care market in India is set to grow 20% per year through 2020.
The trend is benefiting Biotique, a brand that uses medicinal herbs and operates a factory in Himachal Pradesh and an R&D facility in Switzerland. “Our products are dermatologically tested and made as per international approvals. Plus, they are preservative-free and made from medicinal herbs,” says founder Vinita Jain. “The ingredients are sourced from the preservative-free soil of the Himalayas. We buy from farmers directly and then process them in our factory.”
The company also makes its own organic and biodegradable packaging and prices its products competitively—between Rs 50 to Rs 1,600. “All our manufacturing and packaging is in-house, unlike others, where it’s third-party controlled. This helps us in keeping the prices down,” Jain adds.
