In Manhattan, edible dinnerware startup Loliware has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the rollout of a drinking straw made from seaweed.
Dubbed Lolistraw, the straws are marine-biodegradable, compostable, and edible.
By 2020, the amount of plastic waste in the ocean is expected to exceed that of fish.
According to care2.com, the product breaks down 24 hours after use and even come in various “plant-based colors and flavors.” They are, however, more expensive than conventional petroleum-based drinking straws.
