In Scotland, Scottish Enterprise launched the Scottish Bio-Resource Support Service to track and detail information on the type, quantity and location of an estimated 27 million tons of biobased materials that could become value added products instead of going to landfills. Zero Waste Scotland told Insider UK that an estimated £500m to £800m (about $660m to more than $1b) could be generated for the country’s economy by using food and drink by-products alone. Zero Waste’s Biorefining Potential for Scotland report highlights the opportunities for biomaterials to be utilized in high value areas and industries.

Iain Gulland, chief executive of Zero Waste Scotland told Insider UK, “This report will help showcase our burgeoning portfolio to a global audience – as well as demonstrating the opportunities available to develop new, sustainable and profitable circular economy businesses in Scotland.”
