Her concept “aims to offer an alternative circular economy approach to textile production rooted in ecological intelligence, natural dye practices, and biomaterials innovation,” National Geographic says. “AlgiKnit aims to operate in a closed-loop product lifecycle, utilizing materials with a significantly lower environmental footprint than conventional agricultural or petroleum-based textiles (e.g. cotton and polyester).”
Skocir will receive $25,000 to help advance AlgiKnit toward commercialization. The award was given in partnership with GSK Consumer Healthcare. There were over 2,800 submissions.
