The product line—dubbed CHUK!— includes bowls, plates, and compartment trays, with sandwich and soup boxes under development. “After studying the food consumption patterns in the country extensively we decided upon the design philosophy of CHUK! products,” Yash Papers’ head of strategy, Ved Krishna, told Moneycontrol. “Our aim was to create modular designs which are consumer friendly as well as bio degradable and eco-friendly.”
Bagasse pulp is lightweight, flexible, and strong, and the CHUK! containers are microwave safe. The price point is higher than styrofoam, but cheaper than plastic. India generates 5.6 million metric tons of plastic waste annually.
Yash Papers is also in talks with Swiggy, another food delivery firm, as well as several restaurant chains. The company aims to receive at least 50% of its revenue from its Chuk-based packaging in the next three years, Krishna adds.
