In San Francisco, fashion house Stella McCartney is expanding its eco-friendly fashion innovation through a partnership with biotechnology company Bolt Threads. Under the collaboration, Bolt Threads will develop new textiles through cleaner manufacturing processes using sustainable ingredients based on proteins found in nature. An example is Bolt Threads creating silk using yeast, making the textile vegan-friendly which reduces pollution and creates long-term sustainability. The collaboration marks a milestone in the fashion industry, which has seen little innovation in textiles in the last several decades, which has generally relied on harmful petrochemicals.

Going forward, Stella McCartney and Bolt Threads plan to announce and reveal new initiatives together.
