In Canada, McDonald’s McCafé coffee producer in Manitoba is now offering 100% compostable McCafé Keurig-compatible pods made from coffee bean skin and other compostable plant-based biomaterials. The pods are certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute and are designed to reduce waste. They can breakdown in as quickly as five weeks and received the 2016 Innovation in Bioplastics Award from the Plastics Industry Association.
“We are tremendously proud to be the first QSR (quick service restaurant) to offer 100 percent compostable McCafé Keurig-compatible pods for our coffee lovers from coast-to-coast,” Jeff Kroll, senior vice president, McDonald’s Canada, told Waste Today Magazine.
