In Italy, fashion is getting a new material in town and shoppers will soon be able to buy prototypes of garments, bags and other fashion accessories made from wine leather. Wine leather is made from wine by-products called grape marc and is free using existing machinery at wineries which gives Vegea, a company with a patented process for making wine leather, a head start in fabric production. Biofuels Digest reported earlier this year about Vegea being an award finalist for their patented process, but now Vegea is actually going into production with fashionable prototypes and an anticipated rollout of October this year. Vegea’s next step is to partner with wineries and fashion brands to help launch the commercialization of wine leather internationally.
