In Minnesota, Cargill Inc. acquired vegetable-based polyol product line Agrol and other assets from Arkansas-based BioBased Technologies. Both Cargill and BioBased Technologies make polyols from soybeans to replace fossil fuel based polyols, but Cargill specializes in biobased polyols for flexible foam applications in bedding, furniture and automotive seats while BioBased Technologies specializes in polyols for industrial foam applications. With the acquisition, they hope to expand biobased polyols to non-foam applications such as adhesives and binders, elastomers, sealants and coatings. Amy Sorrell, BioBased Technologies Chief Executive Officer is now Commercial Manager at Cargill Industrial Specialties. Financial details on the acquisition were not publicly available.
