In California, biobased farnesene producer Amyris has announced it expects to launch industrial production of a new sweetener in 2018.
The low-calorie sweetener, dubbed No Compromise sweetener, is forecast to deliver Amyris and an unnamed partner over $200 million in annual sales by 2020. No Compromise will be cheaper than sugar and not have any negative taste.
“Our efforts to give the consumer sustainably sourced, best performing products without dangerous ingredients is really starting to payoff,” says Amyris president and CEO John Melo. “We believe we have the leading market position for sustainable, healthy sweeteners and we are very excited about helping the world transition away from unhealthy sugars and accelerate the use of healthy sweeteners by providing the consumer a better taste experience and our partners better economics.”
