In Massachusetts, surfactants manufactured by Modular Genetics, Inc. have been certified as both 100% biobased and palm-oil free.
Specifically, United States Department of Agriculture’s BioPreferred program has certified Modular’s AminoSurf-E surfactants as having 100% Certified Biobased Content, while the Go Palm Oil Free organization gave the product Palm Oil Free Certification.
AminoSurf-E are the first surfactants to receive both certifications.
The BioPreferred program was created “to spur economic development, create new jobs, and provide new markets for farm commodities,” while GPOF aims to enable consumers to confirm that their products are made without palm oil.
Modular Genetics has received financial support from both the National Science Foundation Small Business Innovation Research program and the MassVentures START program.
