In Georgia, Meridian Waste Solutions, Inc., a solid waste services company, signed an agreement with Advanced Lignin Biocomposites LLC for a joint venture to build up Advanced Lignin’s biomaterials technology products. Using lignin byproduct from pulp and paper manufacturing and cellulosic biorefining, Advanced Lignin uses advanced technology to produce biomaterials and bioplastics. While initially focusing on environmentally friendly bioplastics, they plan to expand into adhesives and renewable fuels as well, saying their products will be less expensive than traditional fossil fuel based products and even less costly than other biomaterial based products currently in the market.

Why is Meridien Waste excited about this joint venture project? Jeff Cosman, CEO of Meridian Waste, told Yahoo Finance, “While Meridian Waste will continue to support traditional recycling efforts, we believe that there are additional pathways that can achieve significantly greater results in terms of sustainability and economic benefit. Our new joint venture will explore one such pathway as it essentially participates and contributes to nature’s most efficient and ongoing carbon capture and recycling activities.”
