In Indiana, researchers studied over 1,280 compounds to see which produced the highest level of the valuable NMNAT2 enzyme. Why is NMNAT2 so great? It helps protect your brain and cognitive function against neurodegenerative diseases like dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Of the more than 1,000 compounds studied, researchers found 24 in particular that produced the NMNAT2 enzyme. The #1 winner for producing the most NMNAT2 enzyme was caffeine. While caffeine is in many items we consume like chocolate, teas, and soft drinks, researchers think coffee in particular plays a helpful role for our health. Coffee has additional properties like antioxidants, potassium, niacin, and magnesium, which are helpful in protecting against diabetes and other diseases as well.
