In Japan, cosmetics ingredients firm Nikkol has finalized the formation of its 50-50 joint venture with Amyris.
The JV, dubbed Apprinova, was first announced in December 2016. It will sell Nikko’s Sugar Squalane brand of emollients and Amyris’s Neossance-brand Squalane and hemisqualane in Japan, China and Southeast Asia. Production will be moved to an existing plant in Leland, North Carolina.
Nikkol has been distributing Amyris’ renewable ingredients to the cosmetics market since 2011. This long-term relationship enabled Apprinova to begin operations soon after the initial agreement, Nikkol tells Cosmetics design-Asia.
