In Australia, fashion brand Breddy’s has received an award from sports industry group ISPO for its biobased “athleisure” pants.

Made from yarn derived from castor oil seeds, the “fashionable and functional” pants are water- and dirt-repellent as well as temperature-regulating. The yarn is manufactured by Fulgar and sold under the brand name EVO. The castor oil plants are grown in arid regions unsuitable for cultivation of food crops.

The athleisure clothing category combines sports and leisure, according to ISPO. The trousers, dubbed “crossover pants” by Breddy’s, will be on display at the upcoming ISPO trade fair in Munich.
