In Thailand, pineapple-based household cleaning products maker Equator Pure Nature is looking to become a market leader in the Asean Economic Community and Greater China by 2019.

Co-founder and CEO Peter Wainman tells The Nation Equator Pure Nature has been growing 250% annually, and that by 2021 sales are projected to reach more than $50 million. “We have seen tremendous growth in international expansion. In 2015, our products were available in only two countries,” Wainman says. “At year-end 2016, we were in 10 different markets in Asia, including Thailand, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Vietnam, the Maldives, Laos and Myanmar.” About 50% of company sales are currently in Thailand, although the company has set a target to have international sales make up about 85% of revenue by 2021.

Wainman founded the company after having a severe allergic reaction to chemicals in cleaning products in 2010. “After approximately four years of extensive research and development, we successfully developed our own fruit-fermentation process yielding natural organic acids, natural enzymes, bio-surfactants and natural preservatives, which act synergistically to clean,” he says.

The company’s products include laundry detergents, fabric softeners, dishwashing liquid, and floor cleaner.  It uses pineapples because they are abundant and cheap in Thailand, and when fermented have “excellent cleaning ability.”
