In the United Kingdom, researchers at the Francis Crick Institute in London have found the scientific reason why you get hungry when drinking alcohol. It was previously thought that the reason you got the munchies as you threw back some beers or glasses of wine was because you lost the ability and control to make decisions and lost the will to just say no to that plate full of brownies or cheese. Now you can blame agouti-related protein neurons in your brain which get messages from the ethanol in the liquor that put your body in starvation mode. That starvation mode signal your brain receives makes you want to eat more. Now if only we could figure out how to block those Agrp brain neurons from activating so we can drink without over-eating.
