In India and Puerto Rico, two institutions have partnered to jointly research seaweed, medicinal plants, and phytoremediation in the Northeast region of India. Manipur’s Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development and the Inter American University of Puerto Rico signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance the two institutions’ cooperation in sustainable agriculture and biotechnology.
IAUPR’s Professor Juan Negron-Berrios says the bioresources in Northeast India can complement IAUPR’s technology and help bring prosperity to the region.
“It took almost a year to reach this understanding,” says IBSD Director Professor Dinabandhu Sahoo. “I hope this will enhance the collaborative research and development between IBSD and IAUPR and it would also involve exchange of researchers, from scientists to students.”
IBSD has also signed a similar MOU with South Korea-based Nakdonggang National Institute of Biological Resources, a think tank on freshwater organisms and biodiversity conservation, to collaboratively research microorganisms and bioresources.
