In France, Solabia Group has acquired Algues & Mer, an algae-based ingredients located on Ouessant Island.

Since its founding in 1994, Algues & Mer has developed a number of active molecules, most notably fucoidans, sulfated polysaccharides with application in cosmetic, nutritional, and pharmaceutical applications. The deal complements Solabia’s expertise in fermentation, enzyme biocatalysis, fine chemicals, and plant-extraction.

Solabria says it intends to use Algues & Mer’s expertise in algae to strengthen its position in cosmetic ingredients. Oussant Island is a designated UNESCO biosphere reserve notable for its wide varieties of wild and cultivated algae.
