NRL’s bamboo ethanol plant enters stabilization

September 16, 2026 |

In India, the ANI news agency reports Numaligarh Refinery Limited’s bamboo-based second-generation ethanol plant in Assam has successfully produced 2G ethanol and is now undergoing stabilization before commercial production. Individual units are being tested toward full utilization while NRL works to improve operating efficiency and develop additional products, including acetic acid. The refinery plans to stabilize the complete process and produce all planned derivatives before optimizing capacity utilization. Bamboo is the plant’s primary feedstock, with NRL developing supply chains involving farmers and local entrepreneurs. The project is intended to demonstrate commercial-scale production of ethanol from non-food biomass.
