Mexico launches SAF feasibility study with ICAO support
In Mexico, Mexico Business News reported that Mexico advanced its sustainable aviation fuel strategy after the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) North America, Central America and Caribbean Regional Office held a national SAF workshop on May 18 and officially launched a feasibility study aimed at identifying the country’s production capacity, investment requirements, and regulatory challenges for developing a domestic SAF industry.
The workshop was conducted under ICAO’s Assistance, Capacity Building and Training for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (ACT-SAF) program, a global initiative focused on accelerating aviation’s energy transition. ICAO said the event brought together public and private-sector stakeholders and led to the formation of a national working group tasked with advancing SAF development in Mexico.
Authorities and industry representatives also presented progress toward a national work plan designed to strengthen institutional coordination and governance mechanisms required to consolidate a long-term SAF strategy, according to the report.
