Methanol and ethanol storage expansion project begins at Port of Rotterdam

March 22, 2026 |

In the Netherlands, Offshore Energy reported that Evos Rotterdam, a European provider of storage infrastructure for liquid energy and chemicals, has started an expansion project for methanol and ethanol storage at the Port of Rotterdam.

The project will see the construction of five new storage tanks with a combined gross capacity of 67,500 cubic meters, a new pump station and a new jetty, to be built by Port of Rotterdam, according to the report.

Evos said that this will allow it to expand its handling of methanol and ethanol, serving traditional industrial markets and the growing demand for alternative, cleaner marine fuels for bunkering, the report added.

“It is a strategic investment by Evos that strengthens the role of our Rotterdam terminal as a leading hub for methanol and ethanol today, while preparing our infrastructure for the rapid scaleup of low-carbon marine fuels tomorrow,” said Daan Vos, CEO of Evos.
