Malaysia ramps up SAF production
In Malaysia, New Straits Times reported that Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said Malaysia’s first commercial production of sustainable aviation fuel marked a major leap in the country’s efforts to decarbonize aviation and secure a place in the regional clean-fuel market.
To meet our national targets, it is essential that we also address high-emitting sectors, namely in aviation.
“Globally, the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has set an ambitious net-zero carbon target by 2050, with SAF identified as a critical pathway for decarbonizing the industry,” Johari said.
The country’s first SAF facility, EcoCeres Renewable Fuels Sdn Bhd, has been producing commercial-grade fuel at its Tanjung Langsat plant since October.
The facility can produce up to 350,000 tons of SAF annually, according to the report.
