KGAL, PtX buy majority stake in Lhyfe’s green hydrogen project in Germany
In Bulgaria, Renewables Now reported that KGAL & Co KG and PtX Development have jointly acquired a majority stake in a green hydrogen project at the site of a former nuclear power plant on Germany’s Baltic Sea coast, enabling the potential expansion of its capacity to up to 1.7 GW.
The Lubmin hydrogen project was originated by French green hydrogen developer Lhyfe, envisaging the construction of an 800-MW electrolysis project in the German coastal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to produce up to 330 tons of green hydrogen daily.
With the potential expansion, the planned facility could achieve an annual hydrogen output of up to 160,000 tons. Land and grid access have already been secured, according to the report.
KGAL, PtX and Lhyfe will jointly advance the project to the next development phase and set the stage for its implementation. Lhyfe will remain a minority owner, the report added.
