K Line commits to long-term bio-LNG supply for its car carriers
In Japan, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, known as K Line, has signed a long-term procurement contract for bio-LNG and begun using it continuously on its LNG fueled car carriers, expecting to cut around 60,800 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually as a result.
The bio-LNG is produced from organic waste including livestock manure and food scraps, and carries ISCC-EU certification confirming it meets European Union renewable energy directive standards.
The move is part of the company’s environmental strategy targeting net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. K Line began a trial of bio-LNG on car carriers in July 2025 before committing to the long-term supply agreement.
