Jiangnan Shipyard unveils MSR container transport system at Posidonia
In Greece, Xinde Maritime reports Jiangnan Shipyard unveiled a molten salt reactor container transport system on June 2 at Posidonia in Greece, following its 2023 design for an ultra large nuclear powered container ship.
The new plan moves beyond a single nuclear vessel. Jiangnan’s concept combines ocean going container ships, offshore nuclear power generation, green fuel production, coastal feeder transport and container transshipment at sea. The design expands the company’s nuclear shipping work from propulsion into the transport and energy setup around container operations. Nuclear power has reentered shipping decarbonization discussions because of its high energy density, long operating cycle and low carbon emissions during operation.
