Itaú BBA sees Brazil needing to invest up to $2.77B in eucalyptus to fuel corn ethanol plants
In Brazil, Forbes reports the expansion of corn ethanol plants opened a second investment front in Mato Grosso, this time outside the industrial tanks and linked to the energy supply of the factories. And the study of the Agro do Itaú BBA Consultancy, released in São Paulo on September 11, calculates that the State may need between R$ 7.6 billion and R$ 14.3 billion in new areas of eucalyptus in the coming years, according to the operational efficiency of the plants. The account follows an industry whose Brazilian installed capacity is expected to rise from 10.9 billion litres in 2025 to 25.3 billion in 2030.
In the projection of the Itaú BBA, a national capacity of 13 billion liters at the end of 2026 would consume 35 million cubic meters of eucalyptus biomass if this was the only source employed by the industrial units. To maintain this supply over time, a forest stock close to 440 thousand hectares planted would be required.
