In Ireland, Gas Networks Ireland and Bia Energy have connected Ireland’s first biomethane production facility directly to the national gas network. The €90 million Huntstown, Dublin, plant can inject up to 120 GWh of renewable gas annually when fully operational, using agricultural, food and surplus packaged waste as feedstock. The project received almost €3.9 million in government support and will also produce digestate that can replace about 3,000 tons of chemical fertilizer annually. The connection advances Ireland’s target of 5.7 TWh of biomethane production by 2030.
