Indonesia on palm oil diplomacy kick while forest fires angering the people at home
In Indonesia, the Jakarta Post reports that the government is still trying to earn good will international for its palm oil biodiesel following anti-dumping tariffs and an eventual ban by Europe on its biofuels and has received neutral support from both the International Energy Agency and the International Renewable Energy Agency. The government recently launched a “Good Palm” campaign to boost confidence in the fuel, but at home the project is facing backlash because of heavy pollution in many areas of the country due to fires, some allegedly due to oil palm expansion that has the public outraged.
