India’s Supreme Court clears additional ethanol procurement
In India, the Business Standard newspaper reports Supreme Court has allowed state-owned oil marketing companies to proceed with contracts for an additional 1.49 billion liters of ethanol under the 2025-26 Ethanol Supply Year. The interim ruling also ensures suppliers without long-term offtake agreements receive equal treatment during the additional procurement process. The decision stems from a legal dispute over ethanol purchasing rules under the Ethanol Blended Petrol Programme, with petitioners challenging a Karnataka High Court order that favored a supplier seeking procurement up to its full production capacity.
