India may halt cane-juice and B-heavy molasses ethanol production
In India, the Times of India newspaper reports that India is expected to prohibit sugar mills from diverting sugarcane juice, syrup and B-heavy molasses into ethanol during the 2026-27 ethanol supply year, beginning November 1. The move is intended to protect domestic sugar supplies after 2025-26 production fell well below initial expectations because of weather and crop problems in major producing states. About 3 million metric tons of sugar—roughly 10% of output—was diverted to ethanol this season. Mills would instead rely mainly on C-heavy molasses, while additional ethanol from maize and rice could help maintain the country’s 20% gasoline-blending target.
