IGC reduces corn crop forecast following European heatwaves
In Connecticut, MarineLink reported that the International Grains Council said that it has lowered its forecasts for global corn production in 2026/27 due to recent heatwaves in Europe.
In a monthly update the intergovernmental organization cut its global corn crop projection for 2026/27 by 4 million tons, to 1.306 billion tons.
The IGC stated that successive heatwaves in Europe have adversely affected the prospects for the 2026/27 corn harvest, according to the report.
France’s corn harvest was downgraded from 12 million to 9 million tons, a drop from the previous estimate of 12 million. Meanwhile, Hungary will now harvest only 3 million ton, a decrease from the 4.1 million expected a month earlier.
