Iberdrola and bp complete a 25 MW green hydrogen plant at the Castellón refinery
In Spain, pv Magazine reported that Iberdrola and bp have completed the construction phase, through the joint venture Castellón Green Hydrogen, of a 25 MW green hydrogen plant at the Castellón refinery, and have already begun the commissioning testing phase.
The companies expect the plant to start producing green hydrogen before the end of this year and to become Spain’s largest operational green hydrogen facility by 2026, according to the report.
The 25 MW electrolyzer will be powered by renewable electricity through a power purchase agreement (PPA) signed with Iberdrola, which will supply 200 GWh/year from Iberdrola’s photovoltaic and wind power projects, the report added.
It is expected that 2,800 tons of green hydrogen per year will be able to replace some of the grey hydrogen currently used by the refinery, which is produced from natural gas.
