Hong Kong shipper strikes green methanol supply deal with Shanghai producer
In Hong Kong, Venture Energy, a subsidiary of shipowner Wah Kwong Maritime Transport, has signed a green methanol procurement agreement with Shanghai Shenji Energy, with first delivery scheduled for the first half of 2026.
The methanol, produced from municipal waste, crop straw, and livestock manure, carries ISCC EU certification and meets the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive requirements, allowing shipping clients to apply it toward EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime compliance.
Venture Energy will act as a trading bridge, moving certified green fuel from Chinese production plants to bunkering ports across Asia. The deal extends beyond product supply to cover full chain collaboration on biogas feedstock and ISCC certificates, creating a traceable framework for standardized green fuel trading.
Shenji Energy is a subsidiary of Shenergy Group, a Shanghai-based state energy conglomerate with operations spanning power, gas, hydrogen, and environmental protection.
