Hong Kong completes its first SIMOPS green methanol bunkering operation

March 15, 2026 |

In Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Maritime Hub reported that the Hong Kong Seaport Alliance (HKSPA) said it has successfully completed Hong Kong’s first simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) green methanol bunkering at the COSCO-HIT Terminals.

The operation featured the COSCO SHIPPING GEMINI, a methanol dual-fuel container vessel with a carrying capacity exceeding 20,000 TEU. The vessel received 200 tons of green methanol through a ship-to-ship transfer from a specialized bunker vessel DAQING 268 operated by Chimbusco Pan Nation (CPN). The process was completed within 5 hours. The operation follows swiftly on from the first methanol bunkering exercise in Hong Kong on 5 March when the Wah Kwong managed DAQING 268 provided 500 tons of green methanol to CM Hong Kong, the world’s first methanol dual-fuel Ro-Ro vessel, according to the report.

Mable Chan, Secretary for Transport and Logistics, said: “This operation demonstrates Hong Kong’s growing capability as a premier green maritime fuel bunkering and trading centre. We will continue to work with industry partners to diversify our energy portfolio and attract a broader network of green fuel suppliers to the city.”
