HF Sinclair sues EPA over delayed biofuel waiver decisions
In Washington, Bloomberg reports HF Sinclair has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, accusing the agency of delaying decisions on small refinery exemptions from federal biofuel blending mandates. The legal action follows a similar lawsuit by the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers, which argues the mandates will significantly increase compliance costs and fuel prices. Refiners must either blend required volumes of biofuels or purchase Renewable Identification Number (RIN) credits. The EPA said 42 exemption petitions remain pending and faces a September 1 deadline to issue decisions.
