H2Pro, Sun Systems eye up to 150 MW of solar-powered hydrogen in Spain
In Bulgaria, Renewables Now reported that Israeli electrolyzer developer H2Pro and Spanish solar developer Sun Systems Group have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop a fully off-grid and solar-powered green hydrogen project in Tarragona, Spain, targeting up to 150 MW of electrolyzer capacity by 2032.
The contemplated project will pair H2Pro’s electrolyzers, which are designed to run directly on variable renewable power, with dedicated solar generation from Sun Systems Group, with no reliance on grid electricity. The companies say it will be the first fully off-grid solar-to-hydrogen project in the Tarragona province, according to the report.
The project is designed to qualify as a renewable fuel of non-biological origin (RFNBO). Its output will initially be supplied to industrial users, particularly in the chemical and petrochemical sectors, and blended into Enagas’ natural gas transportation network, the report added.
In the longer term, the project has also been designed to align with the future deployment of Spain’s dedicated hydrogen backbone and the H2Med corridor.
